Winter: It’s all about the Comfort Food at Maison Depoivre!

Consider this a “post” script to my post on Prince Edward County as a winter destination.

We just finished what I would call a classic winter weekend–snow, wind, sleet–you name it, we had it.

Fortunately, the nastiest weather seemed to hit late day and over night which was great because it happened to coincide with the weekend my sister Denise was to visit.

We had made plans to participate in one of the “Winter Comfort Cooking Workshops” offered by Maison Depoivre, a boutique Bed and Breakfast that is also home to a French gourmet food shop. It is located near the Village of Bloomfield.

You know Denise and I and our comfort foods.  It seemed like a perfect opportunity for us to sate our appetite for all things warm and tasty.  We talked our oldest brother into joining us–not that it took much convincing.  Probably out of us six kids, he is the best cook.

What better way to spend a snowy afternoon than cooking something warm and delicious. We chose the Boeuf Bourguignon workshop.

The charming Vincent and Christophe were incredible hosts and made us feel immediately at home.  It was just the three of us which was nice.

Along with the bourguignon, we also made our own baguette and an incredibly refreshing parsley and lemon drink.  Vincent prepared and steamed potatoes as a side dish.

All of these recipes were prepared using an amazing machine called a Thermomix.  This thing does everything.

It weighed ingredients, crushed ice, pureed, diced, stirred, cooked, and kneaded.  It was a lot of fun to play with.

This is definitely something to add to your “To Do” if you are visiting the County. Cooking Workshops are available at different times throughout the year.

Check out their website for upcoming events and workshop menus.

So how are you passing the time during this blustery time of year?
